AbstractCai Mep and Thi Vai Rivers to be a entry area for the whole Southeast region of VietNam with a international port system have planned and developed at Cai Mep – Thi Vai river to aimed economic development demand of region. Most of port projects have constructed on soft clay. As a result, many soil investigations were carried out a long Cai Mep – Thi Vai riverside to aimed foundation design and soil improvement for construction. Charaterization geotechnical properties of soft clay in this area are important and needed. It will be initial guidence for geotechnical engineer work on this area in the future. This research collected geotechnical data of Cai Mep – Thi Vai soft clay from three site investigation reports. It consists of soil profile, laboratory test and insitu test. Collected geotechnical data were synthesized, analyzed and evaluated for each site and general profile were presented. Degree of sample disturbance was assessed base on large number of conventional oedometer test results. The correlations between compression index and index properties such as liquid limit, initial void ratio and water content were established and compared with other clays in the world. Undrained shear strength profile versus depth and effective overburden stress for site study was presented. Cone factor to predict Undrained shear strength from CPTu proposed. The study on Cai Mep-Thi Vai soft clay was carried out to preliminarily evaluate structuration and intrinsic behavious of this clay.
