Abstract | The study aims to describe the large loan restructuring policy in Bangladesh and developing a benchmark for Bangladesh based on the comparative assessment of the policy practices in some Asian countries like India, Malaysia and Thailand. Large loan restructuring policy (LLRP) was first introduced in Bangladesh in 2015 for specific time period with a view to lending a hand to those large borrowers who had been affected by some external and political factors. This study gives an overview about the LLR policy and its implications in the banking sector. Comparative assessment of the policy in different countries shows that all those countries practiced the policy having the same objectives and developed their restructuring mechanism based on London Approach and own requirement. Considering these country experiences and banking sector practices in Bangladesh, this study proposes a benchmarks for LLR framework in Bangladesh for future references. |
