AbstractPurpose – This project aims to identify the organizational culture of JVPC and the singals of abusive supervision which impacts on the employees’ satisfaction and commitment. Design/ Methodology/ Approach – The project report uses quantitative/qualitative approach with questionnaires and interview among referent employees and some managers to understand and analysis about the company’s culture and the situation of any abusive supervision. For the subject of the project, this paper bases on Hostede’s five dimensions in organizational culture as one of the relevant approach. Findings – Although JVPC has partners from Vietnam and American, the company has played the role of operator and controlled completely by Parents Company in Tokyo – JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation. It is significant to find that the organizational culture of the company and the style of company management follow the Japanese culture. The company has built up a good image in the country as a foreign investor and has been acknowledged for its contribution to the development of the oil and gas industry as well as social activities. However, for the time being, some symptom of the employees’ demotivation and unsatisfaction that leaded to the resignation of some key and long-term service staff have been observed. It was revealed there are some broken relationships between staff and their supervisor due to abuse of legitimate power in the company which was counted as one of the major root of the problem. The other relevant finding is the problem in communication throughout the company. Practical Implications – The paper emphasizes on the impact of organizational culture to the satisfaction and commitment of employees. It brings a concept that in an organization of which culture tolerates power, the abuse of power is stronger, then the problem turns to be culture itself. It is absolutely challenging to change a company’s culture; however, it is possible to improve the management system to consolidate the strengths of the cross culture and eliminate its shortness. Therefore, the abuse of power can be identified and controlled.
