Abstract | Gases, vapours, mists and dusts escape during the process of production, transportation and storage of combustible / flammable materials in the chemical and petrochemical industries, as well as in the production of mineral oil and natural gas, both onshore / offshore and in many other sectors. These flammable gases, vapours, mists and dusts, form an explosive atmosphere with the oxygen contained in the air. In case that the atmosphere is ignited by some ignition sources, explosions will be taken place which can result in severe harm to human life and property. This report provides a brief survey of the essential aspects of explosion protection in term of electrical and instrument equipments using in explosive condition, starting form basic of explosion protection, explosion protection concept, type of explosion protection, including installation and operation of electrical and instrument equipments installed in explosive atmospheres. Keywords: Explosion protection, Primary explosion protection, Secondary explosion protection, Hazardous area, Type of explosion protection, Installation and operation of electrical equipment in explosion areas, Marking of hazardous area equipment. |
