Financial inclusion scenerio of Bangladesh : an empirical observation

AbstractFor last ten years Financial Inclusion is becoming the core objective for many of the developing countries of the world as there is a direct linkage between existing poverty and financial exclusion of a country is found in many research works. Formal financial institutions are normally not interested in the weaker segments of the country and also try to overlook them as these institutions are hankered after making more profit and think that there will be more complexities to finance the weaker segments. But Financial Inclusion ensures the delivery of financial services to the weaker, underprivileged and low income segments of the country in an affordable cost. The government of Bangladesh is emphasizing on inclusive economic growth of the country so that all adult people can participate in the economic growth of the country and get the benefit out of their activities. Realizing and implementing the agenda of the government Bangladesh bank is promoting the Financial Inclusion in the recent years. Thus Financial Inclusion is getting extreme priority in formulation of fiscal policy and monetary policy of the country. This paper discusses the need and significance of Financial Inclusion for developing of a country. In this aspect where Bangladesh stands, what is her present status in Financial Inclusion indicators, how she is going on compared to some other emerging countries, what are the barriers to the financial inclusion of the country and what priorities should be undertaken to promote Financial Inclusion are discussed in this paper.
