How to retain and motivate talent: a case study of ELCOM

AbstractBecause of the very fast development of IT and Telecom industry, the demand of labor force in this industry in Vietnam labor market is increasing dramatically year by year. According to the survey report of CFVG (Centre Francophone-Vietnamien du Gestion), the demand of highly qualified professional and experienced middle management may increase for 3 times in the year of 2012. As a result, the shortage of labor force in IT and Telecom market is one of the most critical national issues. This also leads to the problem of high employee turnover and retention that are facing all enterprises in this industry. ELCOM is not an exceptional case. For several recent years, especially in 2007, ELCOM is facing the critical issue of high employee turnover rate. Consequently, the lack of skillful and experienced staff and good managers leads to the fact that Company workforce can not match the business growth speed, business effectiveness is limited. It is really a big challenge for ELCOM, especially for Human Resources Department to retain good people in the current situation of the labor market. This research is conducted to explore the root-causes of high employee turnover at ELCOM as well as identify the key retention factors for improvement and implementation. From that, specific retention strategies that are practical and feasible for ELCOM to do successfully effective employee retention and motivation are suggested.
