AbstractWireless communication technology has expanded considerably over the past decade. The performance of a mobile satellite communications link is conditioned by the characteristics of the propagation path between a satellite and mobile users. The most important propagation effect in land mobile satellite system is attenuation of the signals due to the impairment of different mobile environments. These channel impairments are commonly described by three fading phenomena which are Rayleigh fading, Rician fading and Lognormal fading which characterizes signal propagation in different environments. They are combined in different areas by different scientists to make a design to explain a particular channel. Some of the major existing statistical models used in describing different type of channels are looked into and the best out of them which is Lutz model is applied. By simulating the Lutz model which described all possible kind of mobile environments into urban, suburban and rural scenarios which represent non-shadowed or LOS and shadowed or NLOS conditions, show that the BER is evaluated and predominantly affected by shadowing factor.
