Abstract | The improvement of Hard Disk Drive (HDD) in nano-technology to increase areal density per platter, need smaller head disk spacing. The small area between magnetic recording head and disk also need an improvement of cleanliness because contamination may cause data error and media damage. The limitation of tool/ equipment direct contact on Slider Air Bearing surface (ABS) in Head Gimbals Assembly (HGA) process is one control method to limit contamination on Slider ABS. However, new slider design with thin slider needs the direct contact on ABS because the limit area for Slider picks and place at slider side wall. The improvement of abrasive resistance for stainless steel material by Diamond like Carbon (DLC) coating is applied for cleanliness improvement in HGA process because DLC has excellence properties like low friction coefficient, high hardness, Chemical inertness and electronic resistivity. The characterization of DLC film by inspection by Optical microscope, FIB/SEM, Raman spectroscopy, Water contact angle, and AFM after coating and physical properties testing by Nano-Indenter for hardness test and Ball on disk will using for measure quality of the thin DLC film. |
