Abstract | Ho Chi Minh City Power Company (HCMPC) is a state-owned company in the power supply sector in Ho Chi Minh City. It is the most important company among seven power distribution companies under Electricity of Vietnam (EVN). The Company strategies are to focus on continuously improving the performances of power supply and customer service, consolidating its leading position in power supply market in the future. To fulfill this task, HCMPC needs to perform a wide range of activities including power network management and operation, customer service, investment and so on. Ho Chi Minh City is a center of economic of Viet Nam, so the need to enhancing reliability, availability and stability of the power supply in Ho Chi Minh City becomes one of the most important responsibilities of HCMPC. HCMPC needs to have a substantial amount of investment to meet the power demand of all customers with ever-higher quality and better services. Investment funds are needed for system expansion, stability and reliability improvements in power supply. The major logistic movements by HCMPC are materials and devices for fixing breakdowns, improving the network and setting up new equipment to satisfy the client’s needs. This research investigates the problems confronted by HCMPC. The inventory is high, some equipment has a short of and some is unnecessary. Meanwhile HCMPC’s financing for investment is insufficient. The analysis of these problems and finding the root causes will need designing a lean supply chain practices in the company, which can provide a basis to recommend certain measures to these chronic problems in the company and finally will provide recommendations of some short-term and long-term solutions to improve the inventory management in HCMPC. |
