AbstractTCP provides reliable data delivery between source and destination across the network path including terrestrial and satellite network. Since there is large distance between satellite and ground station, we have large propagation delay. Because of propagation delay problem, the behavior of TCP and its performance may face problem. The intention of this report is to study how do different kinds of TCP congestion avoidance algorithms behave on the satellite link. For easier understanding, the case of TCP over terrestrial network is first discussed. Their resulted performance is evaluated in order to obtain the most suitable congestion avoidance algorithm for satellite link. In the case of TCP over satellite network, the TCP window size is used in order to observe each TCP congestion avoidance algorithm. This window allows the receiving TCP to control how much data is being sent to it at any given time. We also observe how each TCP congestion avoidance algorithm reacts to the window that have the size exceeding the standard TCP window size. This research “TCP FACK over Satellite IP Network” mainly focuses on the use of FACK. Simulations are used in order to observe how does the use of FACK improve TCP performance when compare to other types of TCP congestion avoidance algorithm, which includes Tahoe, Reno, New-Reno and SACK. Results reveal that FACK really outperforms the other congestion avoidance schemes
