Abstract | Structural health monitoring is important for large civil structures like bridge, high-rise building. There are many techniques to extract modal parameters like natural frequency, mode shape, and curvature in order to evaluate the overall structure condition. However, it is still difficult to detect the small damage in structures by accelerometer or long gage fiber brag grating sensor. Therefore, this research proposes a new damage detection technique for concrete column under random dynamic load by using strain gauge. The column was designed to present for core wall high-rise building. As specimen was conducted and placed inside the lab so the force vibration were applied in order to have same behavior of real high-rise building. Dynamic vibration measurement was carried out in both intact and damaged specimen. The normalized modal strain was used to compare the severity of specimens. When the load were applied, the change of normalized modal strain at loaded locations is much higher than other location. The change of normalized modal strain were increased when the load magnitude increased. Therefore, by the changes normalized modal strain, the location of crack and the severity of damage can be detected. |
