AbstractThe study examines the impact of affective commitment, job satisfaction and job stress on intention to leave amongst the employees of banking sector in Nepal. A literature review on the undertaken variables provides the basis for the research model and hypothesis. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaire in Likert scale type with open-ended questions distributed to 282 employees of Bank of Kathmandu Lumbini Ltd. For the analysis, SPSS software was used. Interview a qualitative method was also used to supplement data gathered through quantitative approach. The results suggest that affective commitment, and job satisfaction are negatively related whereas job stress is positively correlated with intention to leave significantly. Further, job satisfaction has the most impact on intention to leave. The open-ended questions revealed critical factors other than the ones considered by this study such as job security. Likewise, interview data offered some interesting insights like post-merger changes in organization also working environment and its impact on turnover intention. The research is limited to one organization. The sample can be viewed as representative case typical of many other organizations in the same industry. The study provides academic and managerial insights regarding employee turnover with imperative suggestions for retention of banking professionals.
