| Abstract | The purpose of this study was to determine the factors influencing higher education planning in rural areas. The objectives of this study are: (I) to determine the various factors that influence investment in higher education in Northeast region of Thailand, and (II) study the relationship between the factors. The research sample were people from the northeast region of Thailand who had a bachelor’s degree. Questionnaire was used as research tool where 398 individuals responded. The data obtained from the questionnaire was analyzed in terms of frequency and percentage distribution using mean, standard deviation, correlation coefficient (R), and chi-square test. Logistic Regression was utilized to accomplish the objectives of the study. The study found that the decision to continue higher education for male and female to be significantly different (p < 0.05). Older people were more willing to pursue a higher education than younger people. Moreover, a student’s decision to continue a higher education was found to be significantly affected by the expectation to improve knowledge and skills, and the benefit to the quality of life of the family members, motivating others in the family to pursue higher education and to develop relationship between members of the family. |
