Abstract | Goes 70% of social capital, 50% of the state capital, 60% credit of commercial banks, 70% of ODA but according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Vietnamese State Enterprises only contribute about 37% -38% of GDP. Because of too many privileges enjoyed by State enterprises, they are dependent, lack business initiative and are less competitive even in the domestic market. Coalimex is a state owned company which also enjoys privileges and advantages from the State such as availability of real estate and the exclusive agency for some commodities. The company is still doing business well and profit is increasing year by year. However the company’s employee and shareholder believe that profit as well as the size of the company is not commensurate with its current resources. The development of enterprises depends on both internal factors and external factors. However, the internal factors are factors that businesses can proactively adjusted to improve their business operation. Financial ratios clearly show the “health” of enterprise and the effectiveness of business operations. By managing and adjusting financial ratios the leader can make his enterprise more “healthy”. Therefore, the focus of this research is using the case of Coalimex to analyze its financial ratios and suggest some improvements of financial ratios especially on profitability so that the company can proactively seize good opportunities, as well as overcome challenges which are predicted to be a significant change when Vietnam fully becomes a member ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015. |
