Abstract | Vietnam has been and will actively join into comprehensive integration with regional and international markets. The integration activities bring not only opportunities but also challenges for Vietnamese enterprises. Following the trend, acting as financial intermediation and lifeblood of the economy, banks are thoroughly aware of the importance systematic and effective management and operation. Therefore, strategic management is one of highest priority tasks in banking sector, especially commercial banks. However, strategic management is very difficult and complicated operation; just a small mistake can lead to a disruption which could hardly rescue despite of how strong the bank is. In Vietnam, the theory system about commercial bank strategic management is limited, and not really plays the role of theory foundation in strategic management at commercial banks as it should be. Saigon - Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) has just converted from rural commercial joint stock bank to urban commercial joint stock bank, and in the process of dominating market. Its modern banking services, basic conditions on capital, technology, human resources and management experience ... are limited. That makes strategic management at SHB become even harder with many problems that need solutions. |
