Abstract | Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is the important resource for development of Vietnam. FDI is even more important to Tra Vinh province, the poorest province in the Mekong Delta, since it has the scarce resources for development and relies much on the budget subsidy from the Central Government. The study shows that, by September 2008, Tra Vinh has been experiencing the declining performance in FDI attraction since 2006. Tra Vinh was also in the bottom four in the Mekong Delta in terms of business environment and local governance in business development. The study recommends a set of solutions after analyzing the comments of the FDI investors from the survey on their satisfaction and root causes of the poor performance of the province in FDI attraction. Among the solutions, improving infrastructure such as roads, bridges and industrial zones, the trained labor workforce, competent officials, business policies and investment promotion are the priorities. |
