AbstractAs a result of international integration, the competitiveness for companies operating in the territory of Vietnam has become increasingly fierce and more difficult. The company has to compete not only with domestic enterprises but also with foreign one sand in the areas of financial resources, technology and market requirements. In order to ensure its competitiveness, the re-structuring of the company itself plays a very important role. Recognizing the importance of this restructure, the Government of Vietnam has issued various legal documents to instruct and regulate the reform of state enterprises as means to improve the production and business efficiency and effectiveness. Many state-owned and Vietnamese companies have recently invested significant time and effort on reforms business and development of their business strategy to make their organizations more competitive in the market. However, practices have shown a lot of issues for these companies during their implementation process of reform. These issues include unexpected high cost, application of ineffective and not systematic approach; lack of a long-term vision and planning; lack of synchronization between the different activities, etc. Petro Vietnam Power Corporation (PV Power), a leading State subsidiary belonging to Petro Vietnam in the field of power production and trading, has planned to do oversea investment in the power market. Therefore, it is very important to PV Power to change and stay competitive. PV Power has already developed and applied its own strategy for the reform of the organization since 2008. PVP has been selected for this research as case study where restructuring process and implementation are reviewed and assessed, problems and issues are identified, lesson learnt are withdrawn and recommendation for better and more effective implementation are given.
