Abstract | Indonesia has produced mango more than two millions tonnes in 2014 which is the second highest production more than any other fruit and also drives it to become the fourth rank mango producer in the world. West Java Province is one of the central productions in Indonesia with contribution of mango amounted to 16.72%. Moreover the productivity of mango (11.9 t/ha) in West Java Province is higher than the other provinces including national average productivity. The research was conducted in the District of Cirebon, which is the production center of mango in West Java Province of Indonesia. This study involved 93 farmers in Cirebon District of Indonesia and 55 intermediate traders to support marketing efficiency analysis. The data were collected by interviewing of respondent using questionnaires as tools. This study focussed on scope of mango farm related with supply chain of mango through marketing efficiency between farmers and consumers. Benefit cost ratio in farm level, marketing cost, post harvest loss cost, marketing margin, producer net market price and net marketing margin for intermediaries and marketing efficiency for supply chain variation model of mangoes were calculated. The farmers cultivate three varieties of exportable mango such as Gedong, Arumanis, Dermayu. This study focused on Gedong varieties. Farmer activities scope included fertilization, pruning, pest control of mango crop, harvest and post-harvest. The farmers were devided into three groups based on intensification of cultivation methods. The efficient mango farming will be determined by the capital and finance dividing the farmers into three groups, namely non-intesive, semi-intensive and intensive cultivation method. The average total cost of non-intensive, semi-intensive and intensive cultivation is US $ 303.3, 743.6 and 1,853.8, respectively. While gross market price of those is US $ 1,380.0, 2,470.3 and 5,366.3, respectively. Moreover, net profit of those is US $ 1,076.7, 1,726.8 and 3,512.5, respectively. The highest efficiency of total cost using non-intensive cultivation method would be affected by 90.5% of all variables in the model including the cost of fertilizer, management of machines and tools as well as other marketing cost. The highest efficiency of total cost using semi-intensive cultivation method would be asserted by 98.9% of all variables in the model including the cost of pesticide and labor as well as other production cost. The highest efficiency of total cost using intensive cultivation method would be influenced by 99.5% of all variables in the model including the cost of land, fertilizer and labor as well as management of machines and tools, management of transportation cost and other marketing cost. Mango supply chain-I without intermediate traders was the most efficient in marketing channel. Mango supply chain-II with only local retailers and chain-XIV (including large assemblers and domestic retailers) had also high efficiency in marketing channel. |
