Abstract | This study aims to investigate how organizational capabilities are being developed that build business advantages of business processes of medium-sized construction companies in Myanmar. There were identified 21 business activities under tendering, construction and project closeout processes by use of open-ended interview questions as pre-survey. Three medium-sized construction companies were chosen to conduct as case study and investigated their existing practices, key practices of 21 construction business activities, their associated organizational capabilities and identified business advantages from key practices via case wise qualitative analysis. These business advantages were categorized based on their advantage characteristics on the organization. In addition, 10 key business activities such as project evaluation, project contract review, project team assembly, engineering and estimating, engineering for construction and operations, managing cash flows, engineering on-site operations, project reporting and cost control, post-project review, financial closing and utilization of final profit were identified by application of variable-to-variable matrix. Furthermore, their critical practices were investigated and identified via cross case pattern matching analysis. Therefore, the study has laydown and found critical practices that develop organizational capabilities of three medium-sized construction companies which became to medium from small in recent 7 years in Myanmar. |
