AbstractWireless communication improved dramatically for last decade. Use of relay to enhance the system performance is of significant importance in the development of wireless communication. This thesis aims to investigate the performance of the amplify-andforward (AF) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) relay network over generalized fading channels. First, we present a unified performance analysis of a system in which a source communicates with a destination via a relay by considering antenna correlation effects. Then we extend this analysis to multiple user relay network. Different fading channel environments are considered. Both channel state information (CSI) assisted and fixed gain relays are considered. Also we present the performance analysis for the beamforming fixed gain relay system with imperfect channel estimation. Then multiple relay network is investigated with feedback delay effects. Finally we investigate the performance of two-way relay system with antenna correlation. To quantify the effects of aforementioned different cases, we derive the closed form solutions for outage probability, average symbol error rate (SER), generalized higher moments of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and ergodic capacity. Further, we present the asymptotic analysis which gives an insight of the system performance and the diversity gain in each case.
