Abstract | We investigate the performance of the cascade algorithm for information reconciliation, which is one step of quantum key distribution (QKD) and involves error detection and correction. The system model follows the BB84 protocol. The cascade algorithm is implemented through a computer program using MATLAB. One input to the cascade algorithm is a set of block sizes for computing parity check bits in successive iterations. We investigate the effects of these block sizes on the percentage of corrected bit errors subject to a fixed amount of information bits revealed during information reconciliation. In addition, we compare the algorithm performances with and without the eavesdropper. These investigations are performed for several values of the error probability in the quantum channel. |
