AbstractThe demand for wireless multimedia services has increased in the recent days. For their successful operation, QoS requirements have to be satisfied. With the improvement in the Physical and MAC layers, the next generation wireless standard, IEEE 802.11n, has been able to provide high throughput and efficiency to different multimedia connections. Although, the Physical data rate has increased but the large overhead associated with channel access and transmission of packets reduces the MAC efficiency. Aggregation increases MAC efficiency by reducing overhead in transmissions and provide enhanced throughput. The new idea behind this research is to design an aggregation scheme that takes into account the packet size during the aggregation. This helps to create an A-MPDU frame of similar type of packets rather than bundling all types into one A-MPDU frame. In this way, we can provide differentiated QoS to these frames. The proposed scheme is compared with system having no aggregation. The performance parameters used to evaluate the results are, throughput, delay and PDR. The proposed scheme is able to provide high throughput and less delay to different traffics. The performance of aggregation scheme degrades as BER increases. So Block Acknowledgement scheme has been used as a supplement to the proposed scheme.
