AbstractOLSR is a table-driven,proactive routing protocol suitable for MANETs.In VANETs, vehicles communicate with each other or with the road side units (RSU) to avoid accidents and traffics. But due to dynamic nature of VANETs, to provide efficient communication in them, OLSR protocol is not very suitable.Of all the available routing protocols meant for VANETs, position based routing protocols are most efficient due to their ability to route the packets using the geographical position of the vehicles time to time. Inthis particularresearchwork, we firstpresent various types of routing protocols including thepositionbasedroutingprotocolsindetail.Weaimatimpartingthepositionbasedrouting properties to the existing OLSR protocol and apply it in a vehicular environment. We then observe its performance and compare it with that of the existing OLSR protocol. The performance evaluation is done using Network Simulator.Simulation results show that the modified OLSR performs better than the existing OLSR in terms of packet delivery ratio, delay and throughput.
