Abstract | Long distance WLANs play a crucial part in wide area coverage and also less economic access networks. This can be made possible by two major emerging technologies such as implementation through high gain antennas or executing the same with Radio-Over Fiber (RoF) techniques with some basic changes in implementing the architecture. But as stated the distance considered in long distance communication has significant role in overall execution. Propagation delay is higher in case of high gain antennas when compared with RoF technology. Also there are some other advantages using RoF as they are resistant towards electromagnetic interference and also the path loss is very less compared to former case. Implementation of existing MAC protocols as of in regular high gain antennas cannot be made possible to achieve the required throughput in RoF technology. So, we need to make some changes in existing MAC procedure so as to avoid throughput imbalance which is the major issue faced in RoF. The major reasons of throughput imbalance caused in RoF is due to unexpected frame collisions and certain asynchronous backoff time period. This research study focuses in implementing an improvised MAC protocol so as to reduce the unexpected frame collisions, and also reducing the propagation delay between the AP and STAs. Another advantage of implementing this procedure is that users can adapt these changes through their existing system. There will be some changes in transmitting the frame through RoF. Also advancements in OFDM techniques can also reduce the propagation delay to some extent and also in multiplexing different signals without any interference. |
