AbstractPurpose – This study aims to help the Training and HRD Division to comprehend the real situation of Petrovietnam's E&P technical staff and find the specific solutions for training and developing this workforce of Petrovietnam’s core business. Methodology – The approach of this research will be based on both quantitative and qualitative methods and also based on the data and information that the author will be able to collect. This study will compile and synthesize the information from different sources including Petrovietnam's and its subsidiaries’ internal reports, the questionnaire survey on the opinions of technical leaders and HR leaders, the meeting and the in-depth interviews of people who work for Petrovietnam and its subsidiaries, and public information. Analysis and findings – The study provides a preliminary picture of the shortage of technical staff in E&P sector of Petrovietnam and its dependence on the workforce supply sources. The study also points out the weaknesses in talent/technical staff management of Petrovietnam, specific to the training and HRD activities. Practical Implications – The study emphasizes on the impact of the solutions that can be implemented in 2014 to contribute the handling the technical staff challenges in the whole Petrovietnam.
