AbstractThis thesis is to develop a system for solving multi-color nested pattern products to support design by customer concept. The focus is on the product of ceramic tile decoration on wall and floor. In order to succeed in this system, there are three major procedures that have been developed as follows: identify image contours, classify color of contours according to available color of ceramic tile in the stock, and arrange layout of pieces on a sheet material. Firstly, identification of image contours, a new contour tracing algorithm is proposed to extract the coordinates of image contours in order to use for cutting contours. This algorithm can track the coordinates of contours that are nested contours both of isolated contours and a group of contours containing inside one another, interconnected contours, and the combination of nested and interconnected contours. Secondly, classification of contour colors according to available color in the stock, the proposed approach is to find the available color in the stock that close to the contour color and organize into groups in order to use in the further step. The comparison of the color difference between colors of images and available color in the stock is determined from CIE L*a*b* color values. Lastly, layout arrangement of pieces on a sheet material; the proposed technique has been developed to search the efficient layout arrangement. There are two main sections for considering in this step. The first section is the generating high quality of arrangement sequence of pieces by using PSO algorithm. The second section is the searching the suitable position in each pieces by using the proposed local search method. In this study, the experiment in each step was performed in order to investigate the performance of proposed approaches. The results of all experiments were shown that the proposed algorithms and techniques for solving multi-color nested pattern products to support design by customer concept had provided the desirable and satisfactory outcome.
