| Abstract | An Environmental Impact Mitigation Plan (EIMP) is important to reduce negative impacts of hydrop6wer project development in Thailand. This study selected Pak Mun and Lam Takhong projects as case studies to find out causes of problems, ways to improve and propose guidelines for EIMP in future projects. Data was collected from news, television programs, internet and surveys of opinions of involved parties between October 1999 and January 2000. Both projects have some inappropriate processes during planning, and implementation stage. Mainly lack of public involvement in planning, inadequate databases, ineffective public relations. Future EIMP should increase public participation in planning and implementation stages and provide programs to improve long-term quality of life of affected people. |
