AbstractFuzzy Cognitive Maps allow concepts and relations among them to be fuzzy. They can represent a causal type of knowledge, which other kind of conventional knowledge representation schemes cannot process due to the presence of many feedback loops. They exist in a strange region where multiple academics discipline overlaps. Their implicitly qualitative nature is at odds with general practice in the automation of decision making tools. Nevertheless, the complex behavior of such a simple logical construct is fascinating. We can only hope that some has to be still discovered applications of FCMs that allows their promise to be realized. In this thesis we review some properties of fuzzy cognitive maps. The framework for fuzzy cognitive maps based on decision making tool has been proposed as an application. The proposed method is applied in insurgency problem domain.
