Abstract | Mobile phone as one of communication accessories is one of the rapidly growing markets in Thailand. The Thai Government has recognized that it must concentrate on improving Thailand's infrastructure to support business demands for telecommunications, which are the provision of network services for the transmission of voice or data signals, via mobile cellular system. These services include both analog and digital mobile services. Currently, there are eight kinds of mobile phone systems in Thailand, which are NMT 470, AMPS 800A, NMT 900, digital GSM, AMPS 800B, PCN 1800, PCN 1800-Hello, and PCT. Also, there are five mobile phone operators in Thailand, which are TOT, CAT, AIS, TAC, and DPC. The research study focused on the mobile industry in Bangkok, one of the major cities for business, financial, economic sectors of Thailand. From the research analysis including the evaluation of consumer perception, consumer expectation and consumer satisfaction, we perceived the demand of mobile phone and understood the current situation of mobile phone market. From the research finding, digitalization now starts to substitute the analog system and also the demand of digital systems substantially increases. On the other hand, the demand of analog system dramatically decreases since digital system has been promoted for special campaign. Regarding to the digital capacity of mobile phone operators in Thailand, both AIS and TAC still have not enough digital excess capacity to handle rapid switch from analog to digital. In addition, mobile phone market in Thailand is still dominated by two major operators, AIS and TAC, which are awarded concession from TOT and CAT respectively. |
