AbstractSingle-ply solid bleached board for folding carton and paper card use remains the best product where surface smoothness for high print quality and stiffness for good packaging purpose. The objective of the research project is to clarify the interactions between various fibrous material which available in Thailand and the other paper components ( filler and dry strength additives) so that by utilizing these interactions means to improve paper board properties, especially bending stiffness and smoothness. In paper and board properties attention will be focused especially on the critical pairs of properties: the surface roughness - stiffness, roughness - optical properties (formation), optical properties (formation) - stiffness. An effort is made on raising stiffness and optimizing other properties to acceptable level by furnishing the fibrous raw material composition. Treatment of short and long fiber can achieve required paper properties at proper ratio. In addition to mix with other alternative fiber types resulting final paper properties have better qualities. Moreover, the filler contents loading are highly effect to decrease stiffness properties and increase smoothness properties simultaneously.
