Abstract | This study tries to explore the health hazard on the municipal sanitary workers of kathmandu, Nepal. These sanitary workers are socio-culturally placed at the bottom of the caste hierarchy in the society according to their hereditary occupation. Hence these people are known as untouchable caste in the society. They are known as "Dyolas or Pode caste. Hence they are socioculturally and economically backward in the society. This study! aims to view the conditions and the factors of working and living condition affecting their health condition on them .. So this study tries to see the interlinked factors between working, living and caste itself in term of working environment and living environment. This study has more focused more on women and children of the community with respect to their working and living condition. For looking at their health hazard the information were collected from primary and secondary information from which the information are analyzed and the conclusion and recommendations are drawn from it. During analyzing the researchers personal experience was also included. The findings of the study shows that these people have become more prone to health hazard because they are not aware of the changing pattern of waste so they not aware of using protective measures. In their working conditions the other external climatic factors such as weather, noise pollution, air pollution from vehicular emission, dust have also influenced on their health. The impacts are not only to the adults but also the infant children are tremendously affected and even died after taken to work. The pathogens they cany from their working environment gets more favorable place in their living environment to get transmitted from one to other person The overall situation is not only due to their working environment but their living environment has also given the additional impact. The housing condition and the water supply have prevail them to be more vulnerable group for health hazard. Where as over all the major factor is the caste is also one of the main factor which have attributed to be backward in education which unable them for better income as well as to be unaware of the situation. So due to the situation they are still lying in poverty which obviously unable them for better treatment and to improve their living condition. So in order to protect their health conditions the recommendations were made for the improvement on their working and living environment for the concerned authorities. |
