| Abstract | The Mass Rapid Transit system is considered to be a crucial element of the economic
development. Bangkok City, considered to be one of the busiest mega cities, did not have such
system until 1999. The first three MRT projects being implemented in Thailand are the
skytrain, the subway, and the Hopewell projects. During construction period, each project was
hit by uncontrollable outside forces such as unexpected Thailand's economic crisis and
undesired political interventions. Some projects were successful in tackling problems while
some were not. Essential lessons indispensable for conducting future MRT projects in
Thailand are drawn by analysis of previous problems and implementation of each project. The
lessons learnt will help an investor, to a certain extent, learn and realize investment climate of
Thailand's construction industry with participation of the government. |
