Abstract | This thesis is aimed at developing an expert diagnostic system for the retort that is used in Bhutan Agro Industries to help the mechanics diagnose it effectively. The development software package that was used to develop this expert diagnostic system is EXSYS professional version 4.0.1-W. The domain knowledge for the diagnosis was obtained from the analysis of related technical documents, through the careful study of retort construction and operation and unstructured discussions with the maintenance person. To get a clear picture of the relationships among various machine control devices, controlled devices and other components the hierarchical function and behavior models were first constructed. Then, the diagnosing tree diagram was constructed using the hybrid diagnosing strategy referring constantly to the system block diagrams and the hierarchical function and behavior models. - Once the diagnosing tree diagram was ready the diagnosing knowledge was encoded into the EXSYS knowledge base. The prototype expert diagnostic system for the retort has three main branches of diagnosis, which are dictated by initial information that is available at the time of system malfunction. The prototype is designed to diagnose the problems related to temperature and pressure control problems and other related end functions . |
