AbstractClimate change has become a serious problem affecting the hydrological cycle which alters the magnitude of flow and sediment yield in rivers. This study evaluated the impact of climate change on sediment yield and how the sediment yield can be reduced through land management practices in Upper Nan River Basin, Thailand. This study used four RCMs (ACCESS-CSIRO-CCAM, MPI-ESM-LR-CSIRO-CCAM, NorESM-M-CSIRO-CCAM and CNRM-CSIRO-CCAM) and two Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5) for the projection of climate. Linear scaling bias correction technique was used in this study and the SWAT hydrological model was developed for the evaluation of impact assessment. Future rainfall is expected to decrease during the wet season (May - October) while both maximum and minimum temperature will increase in the future. Stream flow will increase under all scenarios except under RCP 4.5 near future. Soil erosion will decrease under climate change except under RCP 8.5 in mid future Sediment yield and soil erosion can be reduced through land management practices in the Upper Nan River Basin. Filter strips and grass waterways had the most effect on soil erosion and sediment yield respectively.
