AbstractThis study focuses on comparison of performance measures for a multistage manufacturing system controlled by Material Resource Planning (MRP II), Just-In-Time (JIT) and Optimized Production Technology (OPT). Two cases have been studied. In first case setup time is included in processing time, and in second case setup time is separated from process time to represent a more realistic situation. Six graphical simulation models using SIGMA have been built to simulate and measure the performance of the given manufacturing system under MRP II, JIT and OPT techniques. Mean Work-In-Process (MWIP), Mean Flow Time (MFT), Throughput (TP), Number of Delayed Parts (NDP), and Mean Setup Time (MST) are considered as the basic performance measures for comparison of aforementioned three production management techniques. Further, several mathematical models to measure work-in-process inventory in different manufacturing environment have been developed.
