AbstractThe high level of unaccounted-for water (UFW) is one of the major concerns for water supply management. Such problems arise due to the consequence of weak management and uncertain policies in this sector. Physical losses and administrative losses are two main major problems caused UFW, other reasons have been identified such as the design of water supply network, the effects of urban planning and management. The problems was addressed by data collection about the main existing problems of Hanoi water supply network and by investigate the problems of UFW in two pilot areas which are typical for Hanoi. The reduction of UFW is a function of improvement of network, detection and repairing the leakage in the pipeline, network operation and maintenance, installation of water meters for customers. Control illegal connections, improve of water tariff and billing system, eliminate public taps, and propaganda water works using and protection for every body are the methods to reduce administrative losses of Hanoi water supply system.
