Abstract | Rising and falling of sea water level in any place are not certain. The arriving of tide affects the activity of human such as: fishing, boating and the related water sports. Tidal current information provides the essential information for studying on pollutant movement and governs the distribution pattern of the pollutant. Tide and tidal current forecasting are made by numerical model because the less time consuming and low cost. · Two-dimensional depth average model formulated by using the Alternating Direction Implicit CADn finite difference numerical method is used in this study. The study area for coarse grid, grid size 9,15,18 km, is the whole Gulf of Thailand with the boundary from Kanua River in Vietnam to Tumpat in Malaysia by water levels generated form the 4 predominant tidal constituents namely: M2, S2, K1 and 0 1• For medium grid size 1,3 and 5 km the study areas are Rayong Bay, Ko Samui Area (Ao Bandon) and Upper Gulf of Thailand with the boundary given by the results of coarse grid computation. The boundary conditions for fine grid size 100,200 and 500 m in sub areas of medium grid are given by the results of coarser grid except at Ko Samui Area with grid size 300and 500 m. Tidal levels given by the model are compared with the observed data, which recorded by the Hydrographic Department, Royal Thai Navy. The computed and tidal currents are compared with the survey data, which conducted by the National Research Council of Thailand and the Hydrographic Department, Royal Thai Navy. Tidal levels obtained from the model are reasonable and acceptable magnitude for all point of comparison. For tidal currents, the reasonable and acceptable magnitude are found except the coarse grid model magnitude at Chumporn, the magnitudes given by the model are too small compared with field survey data. |
