AbstractVietnam is on of the developing countries which has rather high economic growth rate. The high economic growth has resulted in increased energy consumption on one hand and environment degradation on the other hand. Industrial sector is one of the sectors, which consumes a large amount of energy, and produces a big share of pollutants. In this study, the evolution of energy consumption pattern, technologies applied, energy efficiency and the situation of environmental pollution in the six selected sectors of industry for the 1995-2020 period has been presented. For each industry, an analysis of energy demand forecasting has been carried out. The potentials for improving energy efficiencies, energy savings and fuel substitution options of the industry sector are assessed by running and comparing the different cases in MEDEE-S model. Based on the energy conservation potential, the estimation of the emission reduction potential for Vietnam has been done. Based on the above mentioned, options for energy efficiency improvement and pollution abatement in the industrial sector through technological, economical, managerial and institutional improvement have been applied in running the MEDEE-S model to project the energy demand forecasting, energy saving potential and emission reduction estimation. From the projected results, it is found that the energy conservation potential and the pollution situation of the industrial sector are mainly depended on the prod~ction scale and technological level, as well as raw material and energy mixes. The potential of energy conservation in Vietnam is estimated more than 30% in 2020. This is very high as well as potential of emission mitigation.
