Abstract | Overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection and reliability improvement are the most important problems in distribution system and they form the main parts of this study. Many protective devices are used to deal with overcurrent problem such as fuses, reclosers, sectionalizers and circuit breakers. The network considered in this study is the one of center loads in HCMC, which has high rate of load increasing and also many problems to deal with. The fault current calculation is done by using PSS/U software developed by Power Technologies, Inc USA. The study is continued with the selection of lightning arresters for equipments in the network. Other solutions are considered to get higher reliability such as lightning arrester in low-voltage side, and line type arrester of line protection. Most popular reliability indices used by many utilities, SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI and ASAI, are calculated for the studied network. A recommendation of using sectionalizers to improve reliability is illustrated. The thesis suggests formulas to calculate the reliability indices of two or more feeders, or maybe generalize to an area or the whole utility. Beside these three parts, suggested specifications of protective devices are given. They are very useful to standardize the equipment in the network that helps for design and planning tasks, especially in the rehabilitation period of HCMC in coming years. |
