AbstractThe Modeling and Park Zoning system are important feature for any national park, use of a" Park Zoning Model" for evaluating, classifying and identifying the suitable site for each zone in the park. The Bach Ma National Park is located in Thua Thien Hue Province in the central Vietnam was selected as a case of study. Remote Sensing (Landsat TM, May 1998) was employed to collect up-to-date data of land use/land cover. In addition, interpretation of the image associated with field survey was applied to carry out to create the thematic layer maps. GIS technique of ARC View/ Info package was used to evaluate the location of park management zones. The national park zoning system comprises the following four zone: A strict nature reserve zone, an outdoor recreation zone, an intensive use zone and a recovery zone are presented in this study. The "Park Zoning Model" was determined using Linear Combination Method of multiple criteria of eight bio-physical factors. Each factor was ranked and weighted based on its suitability for each zone. This technique has the advantages that (a) all factors influencing site identification decision and the importance placed on (weight) must be listed, (b) subjective and objective criteria can be combined and (c) the analysis is mathematically rigorous. The results indicates that the preliminary park zoning system map received from Park Zoning Model and management priority as well as existing facilities, and outdoor recreation sites was not suitable to be implemented the real situation, so this map was simplified again according to experts, park official suggestions and field check in order to get the final park zoning system map.
