AbstractThe method to predict the long-term compressive strength of normal-cured concrete with and without superplasticizers based on microwave-cured concrete strength is investigated. The optimal process is determined and then applies to concrete mixture with and without superplasticizers from the ACI and arbitrary mix design. The compressive strength is tested at early-age (5 - 10 hours) and later-age (14 and 28 days). The temperature is measured for every mix. The results shows that the temperature history gives important information of its effect due to microwave heating on the accelerated strength of concrete, which can be related to the occurring of the second peak. The equations to predict the long-term strength are established based on the correlation of the percentage of cement against the percentage of early strength of microwave-cured concrete with reference to the strength of normal-cured concrete tested at 28 days. For concrete without superplasticizers, the percentage of error from the estimated value obtained from the equation is ± 23%, while for concrete with 1 %, 1.25% and 1.5% of superplasticizers are± 15%, ± 12% and± 22% respectively. This study affirms that there are possibilities to predict the long-term strength of concrete with and without superplasticizers using microwave-cured concrete strength.
