Abstract | This research is an effort of developing an expert system for injection molding in plastic industry by integrating AI techniques. The domain knowledge is organized by using the decision tree diagram architecture. Through the use of decision tree structures, numerous interrelated variables and technical parameters in the injection mold design and cost estimation process are organized and presented. This system is developed on a rule-based expert system shell-EXSYS, which suppo1ts backward chaining inference and Visual C++. More than 650 rules in the knowledge base are encoded into EXSYS program and Visual C ++ is used for user interface design. The development of this expert system is discussed in detail both design and implementation. It can give advice on seven difference areas of injection mold design and cost estimation. The prototype system is ready for implementation at CIM-AIT Lab's project for the real mold making case study. |
