Abstract | CAD/ CAM/ CAE and Rapid prototyping (RP) technologies play important role in many industries including the jewelry industry. They have been used to develop and improve jewelry design and manufacturing as well as higher productivity and product quality. RP technologies have been used to build jewelry prototypes and molds, while CAE used to predict, optimize, and simulate jewelry casting process. This thesis study consists of two main parts. The first part of the study describes the implementation ofrapid prototyping processes to jewelry industry. In this part, it begins with three-dimensional jewelry design and generating STL file using Unigraphics, JewelCAD, AtiCAM and MAGICS software. Those software have been compared for their potentials in jewelry design. In the manufacture part, the jewelry products and tools have been built by Stereolithography Apparatus (SLA) machine. The prototypes and tools built have been analyzed and compared in terms of advantages, disadvantages, cost, and benefits. The second part explains the simulation using MAGMASoft software to predict and optimize filling and solidification in the jewelry casting process. Three-dimensional solid models of castings have been created using Unigraphics. From the simulations, the best result shows the proper angle in filling and quality of castings after solidified. |
