| Abstract | The use of data mining and its underlying techniques to generate a model and then use this generated model to predict the class variables is important for various kind of applications such as in biomedical data mining applications, intrusion or fraud detections applications. The use of data mining can help the data analyst get the interesting patters from the existing data that is useful for further human interpretation or can serve as input for other applications. This research is focused on applying classification to two case studies. The first case study is a cuisine data set. Here, in the cuisine data set we are given a set of ingredients with their cuisine name. I need to implement a system such that when I provide the ingredients I will get the cuisine name. The second case study is a news topics data set which consists around 20 text files containing data about some news. I will be detecting the topic to which the file belongs to and classify them into a separate folder so that all the files in a folder belongs to the same topic. I will be using various available classification algorithms to fulfill my objective of classification and then analyze the performance of the various generated classifiers or models. |
