Abstract | The Internet possesses unique characteristics, which distinguish it in important ways from traditional commercial communications environments. Because the Internet presents a fundamentally different environment for business activities than traditional media, conventional marketing activities as well as buying and selling activities are being transformed. Electronic commerce, which is part of the Internet, enhances communications and transactions between the seller and the buyer. This research study proposes an E-commerce plan for the Nepalese carpet industry. This industry, which is Nepal's largest export oriented industry, has lately been plagued by a decline in sales in its major markets. Though various reasons have been cited for the decrease in sales, the main problem has been the inability of carpet exporters to keep up with their competition in effectively tapping newer markets. Surveys as well as interviews were used to gain a better insight about the needs of the carpet industry. It is felt that E-commerce will be beneficial for the carpet industry in every aspect of their business. Using the business plan, carpet exporters will be able to reach a wider range of customers, regain market share in Europe and compete effectively with competitors |
