Abstract | The economic environment of the Indochina countries and Burma has altered dramatically in just a few short years. Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Burma have all moved away from centrally controlled to free-market, free-enterprise economies and will constitute on attractive, stable market place for both products and services in the future. Since 1992, The Thai Government believed Thailand's economic conditions, geographic location and long-time relations with the Indochina put it in an excellent position to serve as a financial center to support trade, investment and production in this region. However, since the crisis in 1997, there are changes in the economic situation of Thailand. Therefore, the Thai Government should revise its policy in developing Thailand to be a regional financial center. This research study analyzes the main factors of the City of London (the City) in attaining and maintaining its position as a leading international financial center for centuries. Thailand's existing situation has been assessed in order to form SWOT analys~s for Thailand. Based on the data collected, Thailand should improve its infrastructure including of transportation, communication, utility to meet global standard so that it can better prepare itself to be a regional financial center. Economic and political stability are important for Thailand to be a regional financial center. Moreover, the standards of professional services, which are accounting and legal service, and the number of expertise are also important factors. However, according to the existing trade statistic between Thailand and Indochina including Burma and the current economic situation of Thailand, Thailand should develop to be a trade center prior to be a regional financial center |
