AbstractIn this study, household energy demand in Phnom Penh in the past and the future was analysis at micro and macro levels. In the past, it was found that household heavily relied on traditional energy sources accounted for 83 % of energy used in Phnom Penh households. Some past trend of energy consumption were provided in terms of tables and balances from previous studies. In the future, in Phnom Penh, energy demand forecast in the years 2003, 2008, 2015 was made, using MEDEE-S Model with for economic and energy policy scenarios. The total Phnom Penh's household energy demand could increase around 7% annually during the forecasting period from 92 Ktoe in base year 1998 to 276 Ktoe in 2015. It was found that energy demand in the future is sensitive to economics development and new rational energy policy towards the improvement of efficiency of cooking stoves due to dominance of traditional fuel used in the households. Firewood, charcoal, kerosene, liquefied petroleum gas and electricity will be the energy requirements for Phnom's Penh households. Electricity will lead in households' energy use for lighting, while traditional fuel (such as firewood) and charcoal will lead for cooking fuels.
