Abstract | Optimum capacitor placement in distribution system is a method for reduction of power loss and voltage drop, which is important to the social economic development. In this study, typical daily load shapes are used to calculate losses in the system. The performance of feeders are analyzed by a three-phase load flow program of power system simulator of utilities (PSSU). The system configuration is made of single circuit as required. Transformer losses and losses in feeders have been calculated for the system. The optimum capacitor placement with the minimized cost has been obtained in this study. Other application and extension of PSSU is discussed with the use of the program for analyzing the effects of reduced voltage operation on distribution feeders, a system stability, system faults, which one subject matters in regulatory circles today. Loss minimization taking into account the system reliability and voltage quality aspects, are obtained. The installation of shunt capacitor and reconfiguration of the network are studies for loss minimization. Computer software PSSU is applied to analyse the distribution system in Seam Reap province. Special attention is given to the optimal capacitor placement, economics for installation in the existing power system. |
