AbstractThis research is proposed for studying the electronic commerce development and practices in the Vietnamese tourism industry to answer the question of why electronic commerce is rarely implemented in Vietnam tourism industry. In order to able to develop the analytical framework and provide alternative solutions, firstly, the Internet and business in Vietnam were assessed. The assessment focused on two areas of interest, Internet marketing level and Internet management. The electronic commerce framework assessment was done through interviews with manager of one Internet Service Provider (ISP)- Vietnam Datacommunication Corporation and four leading commercial banksVietcombank, Vietincombank, Vietindebank and Agribank. Similarly, the electronic practice of the tourism companies was done through questionnaire distribution over two cities- Hanoi and HCMC in Vietnam. Later, relying on the ISP and banks' development practices, the practices and barriers of development were analyzed. Finally, the research presented guidelines for government, ISP, banks and tourism companies to overcome the confronted facts in order to able further deploy the benefit of electronic commerce
