Abstract | This research was conducted to respond to the current situation of the tourism development in Vang Vieng District particularly emphasis on Nam Song River where tourism is recognized as one major income generator for local people. Many interesting activities have been conducted a long the river attract to tourists. The study was designed to identify the environmental impacts of cmTent tourism and to provide recommendations for sustainable tourism development in Vang Vieng District including all case studies. This study began with site observation, questionnaire survey, and interview with key informants. The objective of this work was to desc1ibe the evaluated environmental policy by quick checklist. In order to development the study area, to examine and identify the current environmental issues from government operation in tourism development issues. A SWOT and SPSS analysis were then conducted in order to understand the actual situation of tourism in the Vientiane Province. Finally, the results of the analysis and collected data were included and combined to become the basis system of sustainable tourism development in Vang Vieng District. The absence of environmental actions in a tourism management plan might be impacts to the environment, therefor environmental policy should include these actions and provide in each required place, the additional benefit of good tourism management is the better local economy. The study also emphasized the importance of having system for developing tourism and the inclusion of local participation in planning for environmental policy and tourist information center service for sustainable tomism development of Vang Vieng District and the decision making process.
